David Matthews and Scott Ryalls led the team at careyjones interiors that designed and delivered the $180m fit-out for Isle of Capri Casinos Inc of St. Louis, Missouri. Their relationship with this American Client had begun when careyjones was appointed to assist Isle of Capri with its ambitions in the UK market (see also the Isle Casino at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry) but it was not long before David and Scott were asked to assist with projects in the USA. Their first involvement was with a major remodelling of the Isle casino in Biloxi, Mississippi where they worked alongside established US casino architects, Friedmutter Group of Atlantic City and Las Vegas. Alas, this project was destroyed at an advanced stage of construction by Hurricane Katrina. Shortly afterwards, David and Scott were asked to join the team working on the Florida project.

Working this time with shell architects Cope Linder of Philadelphia, the pair were responsible for the space planning of the entire facility and the interior design of all areas. Effectively, this was a string of separate and highly complex projects all under the roof. The near-impossible timescales for the project put enormous pressure on the team. The production of close to a thousand fully coordinated drawings and twice-monthly attendance at meetings in Florida stretched the team to the limit. Nonetheless, the project opened on schedule to universal acclaim.
